Winners for the 1st 7th Annual Grilled Cheese Invitational Announced!
On April 25 2009, Over 240 competitors grilled it out for the rights and privileges of being called a Grilled Cheese Champion. They weathered the wind, sun, and a crowd of 5,000 and slung the cheese faster, farther and stronger than anyone ever in course of human history.
A big thank you to all that competed in the event. You are all winners in the eyes of the Grilled Cheese Invitational. In the end, only a few could get trophies, with the top winners receiving a free professional grade skillet from the awesome people at Kraft Singles, California State Parks, Izze Sparkling Beverages, Lagunitas Brewing, Bandit Wines and Scanpan Cookware.

The competition was hard fought in the cold back patio of the lodge but saw incredible sammich entries that utilized such ingredients as Donuts! Clearly the Honey Pot category of competition has struck a chord with the Austinites and this GCI continues to inspire the city of the weird.
The Austin Regional saw the inclusion of a new regional category for Texas, the Lambada (quesadilla) category.
As well as the sammiches in competition, Kraft Singles provided over 500 of their hot and fresh sammies for the crowd.

The 1st 6th Annual Grilled Cheese Invitational was held in Griffith Park on April 19, 2008 in Los Angeles, America. By far the largest Grilled Cheese Invitational to date, the 1st 6th Annual saw 126 competitors compete for a crowd of 1,500.
Thanks to the good folks at Kraft Singles
, we had more cheese there than ever before with literally thousands of hot, fresh and free sammiches given out to the hungry masses. Competition for this event was by far our most exciting ever, with sammich runners getting the awaiting judges riled up in an unbridled fury for the cheese.

The 1st Annual NorCal Regional Grilled Cheese Invitational took place on October 27, 2007 at Eli’s Mile High Club in Oakland, CA and was the first regional GCI to ever take place. The event had maxed out capacity for the venue within minutes and soon the competition was on, with over 30 competitors fighting it out for the title of Grilled Cheese Champion.

The 4th 2nd Annual Grilled Cheese Invitational took place on February 24, 2007 in downtown Los Angeles, America.
The 2nd official year at our new digs, we quickly out grew this location as well with over 500 cheese fiends in attendance.
This year saw one of the sweetest GCI victories ever, with the “robbed” Backdoor Betties claiming their rightful crown as grilled cheese champions for the 2004 sammich “Backdoor Betties Sweet Revenge!”

The 3rd 2nd Annual Grilled Cheese Invitational saw the event move to a newer, larger, more undisclosed location in downtown Los Angeles, America. Due to several arguments with our draconian lords of the land, we were forced to cease holding events at our previous location.

So the GCI packed up all of its grills and spatulas and drove about 3000 feet down the street and set up the cheese at our new, smashing digs.
The results? Victorious! As with the previous GCI, the attendance and number of competitors doubled as word of mouth regarding this event spread throughout the Los Angeles underground. We even made friends with several on-duty LA DWP utility workers and employees of Union Pacific.

Grilled cheese truly knows no boundaries.
