2005 – The 2nd 2nd Annual Grilled Cheese Invitational Results!

The 2nd 2nd Annual Grilled Cheese Invitational was technically the 3rd Grilled Cheese Invitational held and saw the birth of our ridiculous numbering scheme. The real reason why it was the 2nd 2nd Annual was mainly because the organizers were busy with a television pilot and didn’t have enough time to update the website’s logo. Thus, a tradition was born!

This competition saw the event truly grow into a full-contact competitive sport with competitors having to contend with drunken grilling clowns, a grilled cheese replica of Christo’s Gates that appeared in NYC that year, a Bill Cosby impersonator, sheep figurines made from sweet cream butter and our first national press recognition via the NPR Radio program, Pacific Drift.

The Grilled Cheese Invitational (GCI) is the largest, craziest, and most exciting Grilled Cheese cooking contest in the country and is the best thing to happen to sliced cheese since sliced bread! The GCI promotes an almost scary pursuit of perfection in a Grilled Cheese Sammich and allows for amateur and professional chefs to compete side-by-side in the hopes of becoming a true Grilled Cheese Champion.

The event was created by Tim Walker in 2003, in an artist loft in Downtown Los Angeles as a competition between friends and since then, has grown into a national movement dedicated to perfecting the art of grilled cheese, with thousands of cheese fiends and regional competitions across the country.
