Winners for the 1st 7th Annual Grilled Cheese Invitational Announced!

On April 25 2009, Over 240 competitors grilled it out  for the rights and privileges of being called a Grilled Cheese Champion.  They weathered the wind, sun, and a crowd of 5,000 and slung the cheese faster, farther and stronger than anyone ever in course of human history.

A big thank you to all that competed in the event.  You are all winners in the eyes of the Grilled Cheese Invitational.  In the end, only a few could get trophies, with the top winners receiving a free professional grade skillet from the awesome people at Kraft Singles, California State Parks, Izze Sparkling Beverages, Lagunitas Brewing, Bandit Wines and  Scanpan Cookware.

For the record, there is a spelling error.

It’s actually:

“Cake & Mivens 2: The Mivens Princess”

Not Mivens Princes.

It’s “Princess” because one of our ingredients was a slice of princess cake.

Could anybody tell me what cheeses were used in Grandmas Glory? that was the most delicious grilled cheese sammich I ever tasted, and what kind of bread. My daughter and I would love to TRY and re-create that beautifull creation. Thanks.

We were shorted plate with a judge’s ballot and I am curious how we did being minus one ballot…

The Grilled Cheese Invitational (GCI) is the largest, craziest, and most exciting Grilled Cheese cooking contest in the country and is the best thing to happen to sliced cheese since sliced bread! The GCI promotes an almost scary pursuit of perfection in a Grilled Cheese Sammich and allows for amateur and professional chefs to compete side-by-side in the hopes of becoming a true Grilled Cheese Champion.

The event was created by Tim Walker in 2003, in private artist loft in Downtown Los Angeles as a competition between friends. Since then, the Invitational has grown into a national movement dedicated to perfecting the art of grilled cheese, with thousands of cheese fiends and regional competitions across the country.
